Circa: 1910 Condition: used very good Size: 94 by 140 inches with a 41 inch turndown Color: white Country of Origin: France Manufacturer: French antique linens
Fabulous linen sheet with ribbon slots Provenance Wanamaker family estate circa early 1900s. This white linen sheet measures 94 by 140 inches with a 41 inch turndown. The hems are hand stitched with tiny almost invisible stitches, the top has 2 rows of fancy hand drawnwork with hand embroidered designs with ribbon slots, one can put a lovely ribbon through in any color to make the sheets a custom match for any decor! Centered on the turndown is a large (7 by 8.5 inch) hand embroidered monogram in red and white that reads RW for Rodman Wanamaker, Rodman was the son of John Wanamaker the founder of the Wanamaker stores. Wanamakers was considered the first department store in Philadelphia, they were known for luxury goods, particularly from France. The Wanamaker family was quite wealthy and well known, the linens from the estate were of the finest quality and with the family monogram is truely a fine piece of history! There is one small hand darn at one of the ribbon slits, and 2 light gray smudges that look like old fold lines, the sheet is otherwise in excellent condition and appears to have been little used, I have washed and pressed it. The linen is of thew highest quality, it is smooth, cool to touch and buttery soft with a wonderful, fluid drapiness only antique linen has! This would be sheer luxury to sleep under! |
