Circa: circa late 1800s
Condition: some holes
Size: 38 by 58 inches
Color: oat

Heavy homespun linen towel or fabric circa late 1800s. This oat colored linen towel measures 38 by 58 inches, the hems are hand stitched. The linen is thick and heavy, there are some small stains and I counted 11 holes ranging in size from smaller than a pea to one hole that is an inch long, the rest are 1/2 inch or smaller. The fabric isn't weak in any way, my guess is these came from something acidic that got on the fabric and created the holes. The piece is actually quite sturdy and darning would enable one to use this towel for many, many years, I have washed and pressed it.
