| Phenomenal French whitework collar HAND embroidered circa very early 1800s. This cream collar measures 13.5 inches at the top and is 4 inches deep, the fabric is a very fine hand woven cotton, the design elements are exquisite with cornucopias of dainty flowers and what look like wings, the handwork is astonishingly fine, this is some of the nicest French whitework I have seen in design and execution, done by and extremely talented needle woman, each little section of needle lace filling stitches are little worlds of their own, the stitches so small and fine you need 10x magnification to see them (I have my pinky finger in one of the pics to give an idea of how very fine the lace is)! There are some separations at the very top in the fabric, the rest of the lace is in excellent condition, this would frame beautifully...a little masterpiece! You just don't see pieces like this much. |
