| Fabulous handmade linen and figural lace bedspread in a rare, true king size circa late 1800s with provenance. This cream linen bedspread measures 128 inches wide and 90 inches in length with gathered scalloped edges on the sides edged with handmade bobbin lace , above is a band of handmade figural lace inserts alternated with hand embroidered panels. In the center of the spread is a large design made with handmade figural lace panels of an Elizabethan theme with a courting couple, lions rampant, crowned dragons and corner designs that resemble coats of arms. The various types of lace are all handmade linen laces as is the fabric. There are some well done hand darns in the bottom corners, some repairs in some of the lace and a light pink spot near the end about 1 inch wide, the spread is otherwise in very good condition, I have washed and pressed it. Antique bedspreads as large as this are rare! |
