Handmade Ayrshire christening gown all hand stitched circa about 1820-30s. This white cotton gown measures 35 inches in length and 10.5 inches underarm to underarm the top has a hand embroidered Ayrshire front , the sleeves also have this whitework, the back closes with a little tasseled tie, the waist has tiny little pleated gathers, beautiful handwork and construction. the only flaws are 2 small holes at the waist (one is pictured), these could easily be repaired or covered with a ribbon at the waist, the gown is otherwise in very good condition, there is a bit of oxidation at the top that a soak will remove, the fabric is still strong and the gown is usable. |
