| Early American, thick homespun hand woven linsey-woolsey coverlet or throw from the early 1800s, a museum de-accession. This cream and indigo coverlet measures 38 by 96 inches, the coverlet is thick woven in 2 thicknesses at the same time so it is totally reversible, lovely pattern with excellent color saturation of the vegetal dye. There are some large worn areas 2-3 inches in diameter that are worn through on one side but not the other, basically one thickness is worn and the other not so no holes show through (one of these areas can be seen in the lower left hand of the first picture). I would call this fair condition, the coverlet is still strong with a soft hand. This is an interesting early hand woven piece no doubt from home raised linen and wool, woven on a narrow loom, it still has the museum number and tag on it. |
