| Marvelous early American homespun linen sheet with monogram and number and flat center seam circa early-mid 1800s. This cream linen sheet measures 66 by 88 inches, the ends are rolled and stitched by hand using almost invisible little stitches, the center seam is also hand stitched, obviously the work of a skilled hand, the spinning and weaving are also skilled as the fabric is not the rough coarse stuff, it is weighty but a medium-fine weave. The vegetal dyed cross stitch monogram centered on the end reads HS over the letter 10. There is a small hole near the edge, some small light stains in a group and some very small thin spots in a small group, the sheet is otherwise in good condition, I have washed and pressed it. The linen has a great hand! This sheet came from an Estate in Springfield Mass. that had a good collection of early hand woven textiles. |
