Handmade Alencon lace circa 1800. This lace measures 12.5 by 4.25, the lace has been doubles and stitched together, if it was picked apart (easily done) it would be one length 25 by 2.25 inches. This is gorgeous lace with handmade mesh and a variety of teensy little needle lace filling stitches and picots, one needs magnification to see the details of this fine lace. The top mesh is called Brides Tortelees, the bottom is pure Alencon, the lace is a transition piece between Alencon and Argentan laces, rather unusual. The piece is in excellent condition, the color is ecru. This lace was part of the Florence Colgate Speranza collection. |
