| Early Ayrshire whitework and lace hankie, all handmade circa 1st quarter of the 1800s. This hankie measures 20 inches square including the 1.5 inch handmade Valenciennes lace edging. The whitework is beautifully done, I have placed my pinky in one of the pics to show you just how fine the handwork is. The hand embroidered swag and flower garland runs around the entire edge of the hankie, very lovely, with fine needle lace filling stitches in the flowers, very precise work! There is a 3/4 inch tear in the fabric, the hanky is otherwise in good condition, I have not washed it so it retains its patina. This was part of the Florence Colgate Speranza collection. |
