| This is a fine homespun Italian linen and lace luncheon set circa 1900-20. This set consists of a runner measuring 16 by 48 inches, 12 placemats 11 by 16 inches and 11 napkins 14 inches square. The linen is handmade with finely hand stitched edges and fancy drawn work called ponto quadro, the runner and mats have band of Italian whitework around the edge with cutwork designs for added interest, the napkins have this handwork on one corner of each napkin, gorgeous handwork! The runner has a nicely done hand darn that can be seen in one of the pictures, the set is otherwise in excellent condition, I have washed and pressed it. This is a fine quality set, the linen is soft and cool to touch and drapey as only antique linen can be! |
