This is a lace lot with point de gaze and other laces de-accessioned from a museum from the 1830's to the late 1800's. The Point de gaze collar measures 13 inches wide by 4.25 , it has 4 covered wire stays and 11 brass hook closures, the nuns pleats in the silk fabric are stitched by hand, I saw 4 small holes in the mesh, the lace is otherwise in good condition. The large handmade lace piece in the front (fichu or pelerine?) measures 35 inches in length at the top and is 17 inches deep at the center, there are some small holes in the mesh, it is otherwise in good condition, the silk is soft and silky. the top left piece is brussels lace and the lower right is the newer piece. |
