| This is a set of 12 rare, huge early figural linen napkins with phoenix's circa mid 1800's. These napkins measure 30 by 33 inches, they came from a wealthy Pennsylvania estate. The hems are sewn on a treadle machine, the design elements have pairs of phoenix facing each other on each side with a flower in between them, the background has cloudlike swirls among the flowers, and unusual design to be certain. There is a small hand embroidered WB monogram in one corner of each napkin. These napkins were rarely used and are in excellent condition, I have washed and pressed them. Huge early napkins like these are extreemly hard to find, these are rare ones with the phoenix on them. The linen is quite sturdy, soft and supple, cool to the touch and weighty, these are QUALITY napkins! |
