PALLINSBURN HOUSE STORY-We are very pleased to have been fortunate enough to acquire the lace and other items from the Pallinsburn House estate in Northumberland. Pallinsburn House was built by the Askew family starting in 1763, in 1910 it was sold to Major Charles Mitchell (whos family made their vast fortune in shipbuilding in Newcastle-upon-Tyne), Major Mitchell was married to Hope Hamilton in 1917, Hope had inherited items from Sundrum Castle in Arshire along with more items from Stanage Castle in Powys, which she brought to Pallinsburn house upon her marriage to the Major. The mansion has been in the Mitchell family since and was sold last year at auction. The contents of the Pallinsburn house were recently put at auction where we were able obtain some of the textiles and lace, this lace is a collection from the Askew family, the Hamilton family, the Mitchells and possibly some from the castles. We are excited to be able to offer these pieces of history to you! Info on the Pallinsburn House and a copy of the auction house catalog page will be sent with orders of items from this estate.

P4527
Fancy pantaloons with lace all hand stitched with monogram circa 1800's This is a pair of fancy linen lawn pantaloons with the monogram MH, all hand stitched from the Pallinsburn House estate in Northumberland (for more information on this important estate see the article on our home page) circa 3rd quarter of the 1800’s. These pantaloons have a 27 inch waist and are 23 inches long, the bottom edges have handmade Valenciennes lace and hand embroidered whitework, there is a hand embroidered MH on the bottom of one leg the H stands for Hamilton, probably stitched on by the lady herself. The needlework is VERY fine as these belonged to a person of wealth, the stitches are so incredibly tiny you need magnification to see them. There is a fine hand embroidered cord on each side (pictured) in which to put a pretty ribbon, the single button closure is mother of pearl. These pantaloons are in excellent condition, they are strong and appear to have been seldom used, one could wear them today.

The black lace measures 3.75 yards in length and is 2 inches wide, it is in very good condition, the silk is still soft and strong.
