Handmade linen point de Venise needle lace late 17th century Early handmade linen Point de Venise needle lace piece museum de-accession probably late 17th century. This lace piece measures 7.5 inches deep at the center and is 22 inches long at the top and 30 inches long at the bottom, it is early lace recycled into another use in the 19th century, since early lace has always been very expensive this was a common practice. The lacework is quite fine and the organic design elements and the spacing of the bridges are typical of those from the 17th century, the lace also has the cold feel of very early lace. There are some small repairs here and there which is not surprising given the age of the lace, it is still supple and strong with the fluid feel of early lace!
Circa: 1680
Condition: Used good
Size: 7.5 inches deep at the center and is 22 inches long at the top and 30 inches long at the bottom
