6451
Antique handmade Ayrshire whitework lace panel and flounce circa 1800 Early handmade Ayrshire whitework lace panel and flounce from the estate of Edith and Beatrix Wharton circa about 1800. The ecru fabric is hand loomed cotton, the embroidery is all done by hand as well. The flounce measures 3.5 by 92 inches, the panel is 33 inches at the bottom and 30 inches on the longest side, design elements are floral with fine, needle lace filling lace in the center of the flowers. The panel has many period hand darns and holes. The flounce has 4 hand stitched joins, 2 are finely done and original, 2 were done at a much later date and are rather clumsy when compared to the fine original handwork, there are perhaps combination of perhaps 2 dozen holes and period darns in the flounce, it is otherwise good. Edith was a well known, wealthy writer during the gilded age in the US.
Circa: late 1700-1800
Condition: fair to good
Size: 3.5 by 92 inches and 30 by 33
Color: ecru

6467
Handmade antique Irish Carrickmacross wedding veil cathedral size c1830-50 Handmade antique Irish Carrickmacross wedding veil Cathedral length circa 1830-50. This light cream or ivory lace veil measures 138 inches long from the comb to the end of the train, the bottom of the train is 54 inches wide and the 3 tiered part is 24 inches deep, the blusher(top part that can either be worn over the face or folded over the head to the back) is 23 inches deep and the 2nd tier under the blusher is 39 inches long and 46 inches wide. There is a center seam on the train, but it does not detract at all from the beauty of this veil and is not all that unusual in an antique veil, all the stitching is done b hand. The lace is made by using a machine made net and HAND stitching the designs to the netting using thousands of teensy little stitches, gorgeous design, I love the feathery designs on the second tier! The veil was made using 3 different pieces of this handmade lace to create the veil, the designs all work very nicely together. The veil comes with the comb attached so its ready to use, if the silk fabric (which is new fabric, as is the comb) on the comb is the wrong color, it can be removed and replaced with new fabric, or of course a different comb could be exchanged by a competent seamstress. The 2nd tier has 2 small expertly hand done repairs, one is pea size and the other a tad larger, the gown is otherwise in excellent condition. This is a lovely antique veil in the very difficult to find cathedral length. This veil has been cleaned, it will need touch up pressing before use, the color in the close-up pictures is the most accurate.
Circa: 1830-50
Condition: excellent, 2 small expert repair
Size: Cathedral length
Color: light cream or ivory

5253
Hand woven towel or scarf probably Greek or Bosnian sheer fabric 19th century hand woven towel or scarf probably Greek or Bosnian. This piece measures 17 by 64 inches with 1 inch long fringe at the ends, the sheer fabric feels like a silk and cotton blend with vegetal dyed cotton decorative threads woven into the fabric at each end, intriguing geometric patterns. The colors are off in my pictures as the colors are no where near that bright, the reds are actually a faded burgundy with gold and pink. As the pictures clearly show, there are areas in the sheer fabric that are damaged, the ends however are in remarkably good condition probably due to the extra thickness of the designs woven into the fabric, the fringe is also in good condition. I have not washed this piece as I know most collectors would prefer this as is.
Circa: late 1800s or early 1900s
Condition: used
Color: cream, red

lace lot with point de gaze collar and blonde lace pelerine 1830-1890 This is a lace lot with point de gaze and other laces de-accessioned from a museum from the 1830's to the late 1800's. The Point de gaze collar measures 13 inches wide by 4.25 , it has 4 covered wire stays and 11 brass hook closures, the nuns pleats in the silk fabric are stitched by hand, I saw 4 small holes in the mesh, the lace is otherwise in good condition. The large handmade lace piece in the front (fichu or pelerine?) measures 35 inches in length at the top and is 17 inches deep at the center, there are some small holes in the mesh, it is otherwise in good condition, the silk is soft and silky. the top left piece is brussels lace and the lower right is the newer piece.
