All hand stitched cotton handmade lace baby Christening gown mid 1800s All hand stitched cotton and handmade lace baby Christening gown circa mid 1800s, a museum de-accession. This cream cotton gown measures 27 inches long top to bottom and it 9.25 wide arm hole to armhole, it looks to be unused as the fabric still has the feel of sizing in it. The front of the gown has beautiful embroidered whitework panels in it as well as on the top of the sleeves and around the arms, the waist and top are gathered and tied in the back with ties and clever multiple ties at the waist, ALL the stitching is done by hand using tiny almost invisible stitches that you need magnification to see (the close-up pic looks like machine stitching but it is NOT I examined the back side and it is hand stitched), beautiful handwork! This gown is in excellent condition, there are no holes, or stains, it does need a freshening wash, but could otherwise be used today. Its rare to see these gowns in such great shape. Priority shipping for this item is Free in the US.

6167
Early Ayrshire whitework Christening gown circa 1820 all handmade Early Ayrshire whitework Christening gown all hand made circa 1820s damaged. This gown measures 26 inches in length and is 26 inches wide at the bottom and 8.5 inches wide at the waist. The fabulous Ayrshire whitework is some of the best I have seen, VERY fine work with miniscule filling lace and drawnwork with tiny little stitches, just extraordinary hand work and skill require to do this work! I have placed my finger in some of the pictures as a size reference to show the fineness of the work. This fine handwork extends from the top all the way to the bottom of the gown and across the bottom, the sleeves have a double layer of this hand work as well. Unfortunately the gown is damaged, there is a corner type tear on the front about 1.5 inches long, and a hand darned tear almost as large on the back, the under arm on one sleeve is torn the from waist to the end of the sleeve and the other under arm also is torn though not quite as badly, there are also some small holes here and there. Still the Ayrshire work is intact with the exception of 2 small holes, so, one could collect this piece for the beauty of the whitework , or, one could carefully remove the whitework and put it on another gown, the sleeves could be used this way as well as the handwork is intact on them. I am pricing this for the whitework. The gown is clean, no odors.
Circa: 1820s
Condition: whitework good, gown damaged

The dress has a lovely spring like floral pattern with tiny pink, yellow and blue flowers scattered over a cream back ground, it has a white organdy collar edges with pink trim, the collar drapes down at the back rather dramatically, the back closure has 4 metal snaps hand stitched on. The dress has a combination of hand and machine stitching, it was probably custom made and is in excellent condition. The hem has a long turn back on the underside so this dress could be lengthened a good 4 inches or more without a problem.

Lot handmade whitework, bonnets, dress and sham early 1900s Lot of handmade whitework circa early 1900s. This lot consists of a pillow sham in the far left corner, it measures 22 by 19 inches with Valenciennes lace edging and hand embroidery. Unfortunately there is a large group of holes in the front center of the sham, one might be able to replace this with lace and have a usable sham, it does have tiny holes here and there. Top center, a baby's cap with Valenciennes lace and hand embroidery, 3 holes in the lace and a couple spots that need to be re-stitched at the seam, otherwise good, on the right side is a child's dress with hand embroidered hem in good usable condition, bottom center is a child's bonnet, good usable condition, bottom left is a lace night cap in good usable condition. All together an interesting mixed lot with most pieces good.
Circa: early 1900s

Handmade cotton whitework babys bonnet cap circa 1900 Handmade cotton whitework baby's bonnet or cap with Valenciennes lace circa about 1900. This cap about 7 inches high by 7 inches in length, it should fit an infant. The bonnet is made using handkerchief weight cotton with fine littel hand embroidered flowers and vines, the edges are scalloped with hand embroidery and lace. A couple spots need a bit of re-stitching (a matter of just a few moments and stitches), the bonnet is otherwise excellent, after a soak to get it creamy white again, it would be a great gift for the new mother!
