6082
Handmade Hungarian whitework and lace shawl circa 1900 Gorgeous handmade Hungarian whitework shawl circa about 1900. This cream cotton shawl measures 29 by 30 inches square, not counting the 8 inch deep lace on 2 sides. 2 sides of this piece are plain, the other 2 sides and one corner have finely hand embroidered flowers and leaves with tiny handmade needle lace centers, little worlds of fine lace, I have my finger tip in one pic to show how fine the handwork is. The shawl is edged on 2 sides with 8 inches of lace that is a combination of machine and handmade lace, the over all effect is quite striking! There are 3 tiny brown specs on the cotton and about 12 small holes in the lace mesh, it is otherwise in good as found condition. The lady I bought this from (who was in her 70s) said this piece was made by her grandmother when she was young for her wedding and was passed on to her by her mother who told her to wear it at her wedding for good luck.
Circa: about 1900
Condition: good. small flaws

Handmade Point D' Angleterre lace tie circa late 1700s Handmade Point D' Angleterre lace Tie circa late 1700s. A museum de-accession, this unusually long lace tie measures 4.25 inches wide at the widest, 1.5 inches wide at the narrowest, and is 86 inches long, both ends are finished so it was made to wrap around and then tie, at this length perhaps a waist? This lace has the hand made Droschel mesh with Brussels lace floral designs. There are 4 teensy little broken bridges in the mesh and some small well done repairs, it is otherwise in good condition. Rather unusual shape with this length.
