Early homespun linen damask tablecloth signed Mary Dodge circa early 1800's This is a wonderful early hand woven homespun tablecloth signed Mary Dodge circa very early 1800's. This tablecloth measures 47 by 48 inches, the signatire is in the upper right corner, the hems are turned and stitched by hand using tiny practically invisible stitches. The damask pattern is geometric which is seen on the very early linens. The linen has a very fine hand, this was made by an accomplished spinner and weaver! There are 6 small thin spots, the cloth is otherwise in very good condition, I have washed and pressed it. The linen is smooth with the buttery hand and cool touch of early linen that cannot be reproduced today.

5011
Early signed homespun linen tablecloth with provenance circa 1800-1820 This is an early signed homespun linen tablecloth with Provenance circa 1800-1820. This tablecloth measures 70 by 82 inches, the hems are hand stitched using beautifully done hand stitched that are almost invisible. The name on the tablecloth is Betsy Woodberry with No. 9 under it surrounded by boxwood leaves, the provenance that came with this is a parchment paper that reads "Table cloth brought from Russia 1818 to 1820 by your great grandfather Woodberry" My guess is that this was perhaps brought from a trip to Russia by the Woodberry family and the name was added after it came into the Woodberry's possession (items were often signed for identification so items wouldn't get lost). The damask pattern is indeed eastern European. There are 4 small hand darns, the tablecloth is otherwise in excellent condition, I have washed and pressed it. The linen is of a very high quality, the weaving was done by an expert with that very cool feeling only early linens have, it is weighty with a wonderful buttery hand and drape!

Click for more detail...
4862
Armorial linen damask tablecloth Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II c1830-40 This is an absolutely MAGNIFICENT linen banquet cloth hand loomed with a crown and the coat of arms of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II circa 1830-1840. This tablecloth measures 108 by 276 inches, it would have been used at the head table seating the Duke and Duchess themselves. In the mid 1800's the cloth was given as a gift to Marchesse & Marque Guido Tassistro of Florence which was then passed down in the family to the present when I was able to acquire it. The linen is a cream color, hand loomed with design elements of leaves and flowers at the side (I saw lilies, delphiniums and other garden flowers) with garden roses and butterflies inside, on each end (the picture only shows one end as it was too big to show the whole cloth) is a huge (well over a yard long) damask coat of arms with a crown, shield, lion en rampant, and cross flanked by flags with a large cross at the bottom. This tablecloth is in very good condition, I have washed and pressed it, the linen is very heavy, there is a tiny red cross stitched L 1N stitched in one corner. This is a rare piece with Royal lineage!
Circa: circa 1830-40
Condition: used
Color: cream
