Venetian Gros point lace, handmade circa 1800s Venetian Gros point lace, handmade circa 1800s. This ecru lace measures 36 by 3.25 inches, it was made from 2 lengths joined at the center, given the close repeats of the lace I would say this is from the 1800s rather than earlier even though the workmanship is superb, the picots are very tiny, needing magnification to see them well. Handmade Alencon lace from 1700s hand applied to 1800s mesh Handmade Alencon lace from the 1700s applied by hand to mesh from the 1800s. This cream lace measures 2.25 by 17 inches, it is made using machine made mesh and hand stitching handmade Alencon lace designs to the mesh, this recycled type of lace was often done in an effort to save damaged earlier lace and make it useful again as lace was so very expensive, one didn't waste even a little of it! The lace design is floral and literally covered in tiny little picot stitches as was the style of 18th century Alencon lace. The lace is in very good, clean condition.
