This cream hankie measures 16.5 by 17 inches, it has lovely hand embroidered whitework with little teensy needle lace filling stitches in the flower centers and interesting drawnwork and appliquéd squares in the corners. There are about a dozen small holes in the fabric, I have pictured some of the largest ones which are quite small, the hanky is otherwise in good condition.

5987
Interesting whitework hankie signed Lizzie A Dixon circa 1860s Interesting hand made whitework Hankie signed Lizzie A Dixon with a note, circa 1860s. This ecru hankie measures a diminutive 11 inches square, it is edged with handmade Valenciennes lace, the whitework is from the late 1700s or very early 1800s and was removed from perhaps a garment, then carefully hand stitched to this hanky apparently around 1860 according to the note which reads; Mother made about 1860 (transfer work). The piece is signed in old ink in the center with a hand drawn bird holding a branch in its beak. The whitework design is a bit unusual as it is asymetrical. The hanky appears to have been much loved perhaps it has seen much use as it is a bit of a wreak, but still its an interesting piece of history in recycling valued old whitework.
Circa: 1860
Condition: fair-poor
Size: 11 inches square
Color: ecru
